NAAAP Detroit Held 2018 Annual Meeting and Member Mixer

DETROIT, MI – The National Association of Asian American Professionals-Detroit Chapter (NAAAP Detroit) held its 2018 Annual Membership meeting on December 15, 2018 at Altair Engineering, Inc. Headquarters. The meeting comprised two portions: Business Meeting and Member Mixer.

Four new board members were voted in and approved: Asim Alavi, Vice President; Daniela Buccaran, Secretary; Sharon Dow, Communication Committee Chair; Ann Hong, Membership Committee Chair. We are grateful to David Han for stepping up as the Education and Career Development Committee Chair, also grateful to Kan Sun for continuing serving as Treasurer, Vince Mercader as Sponsorship Committee Chair, Joori Jung as Community Outreach Committee Chair, and Daniel Wang as Membership Committee Co-Chair. Congratulations to all!

President Taoqu Chen reviewed NAAAP Detroit’s 2018 accomplishments: The Inaugural Annual Meeting on principle-based leadership; the well-received Learn & Grow series on topics like branding and creativity; the American Etiquette Workshop; the Member Mixer, the Community outreach at the DIA, and the Community Conversations on Emerging Careers. Our membership has more than doubled in 2018, and we have a healthy financial balance sheet.

Committee Chairs David Han and Sharon Dow shared the plan for 2019. We will continue our successful Learn & Grow series with topics such as “Life Purpose & Career Interest”; “Public Service and Community Engagement”; “Role Models & Mentoring”; “Trending Topics for Community Conversations”. NAAAP Detroit will continue to develop new marketing channels and communication partners.

The business meeting was followed by the Member Mixer. Members introduced themselves and shared how they joined NAAAP and laid out their goals for the New Year. Many new and young members volunteered to join the working committees. Our seasoned Community Leaders Sook Wilkinson, Jamie Hsu, and Roland Hwang shared the history and progress that Asian Professionals have made in Michigan. We are building a unified voice but there is still a long way to go.

We thank Altair Sr. VP Richard Yen for hosting us at their beautiful venue in Troy, Michigan. NAAAP Detroit wishes everybody a Happy Holiday!

The mission of NAAAP-Detroit is to cultivate, empower and connect leaders for professional excellence and to engage the community. We welcome more members and friends to join us for our future events in 2019.  Please visit www.naaapdetroit.org for further information.
