David S. Kwon, M.D.

Medical Director of Center for Cancer Surgery at the Henry Ford Health System

David S. Kwon, M.D. currently serves as the Medical Director for the Center for Cancer Surgery within the Henry Ford Health System. With the recent ground breaking for the Brigitte Harris Cancer Center in Detroit, Dr. Kwon will oversee the collaboration of Henry Ford’s surgical oncology, medical oncology and radiation oncology teams on the strategic growth of cancer service lines. He is directly responsible for the development of disease-specific cancer care pathways that will facilitate the navigation of patients through the difficult world of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survival. Dr. Kwon is also involved in survival outcomes reporting, cancer telemedicine, and tumor registry expansion, thus, leading the transformation of a new cancer center into an important vehicle for clinical integration, growth and the development of optimal patient-centric programs to position Henry Ford Cancer Institute as a nationally renowned program.

Dr. Kwon received his undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from Columbia University. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego and completed his surgical residency at Henry Ford Hospital, where he received multiple research and clinical awards. He went on to complete a surgical oncology fellowship from the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center where he developed clinical expertise in providing multidisciplinary care of cancer patients. Dr. Kwon has specialized in surgery for hepatobiliary, pancreatic and foregut malignancies.
